Customer Reviews for Kingston Technology 1GB DataTraveler USB Flash Pen Drive
Cheap USB drive, expensive lump of plastic posted on 2008-10-13
When I first bought my Kingston DataTraveler 1G at a bargain price, I thought "what's the catch?". Well, after several months, I found out. It corrupts data! No, I couldn't believe it either. I kept getting strange errors with files I copied, so I did a test. Took a ~150MB video file, copied it to the drive, then used fc (file comparison) to check the copy against the original. It found 24 bytes were different! Absolutely astonishing. Used XP to fully check the file system but it found nothing wrong. Repeated the test with two more large files, with similar results.

Don't use these devices as a backup for anything you need to keep intact. If you don't mind the odd playback glitch in video or music, then they might be worth the risk. Mine's going in the bin.

Saved my life!!! posted on 2008-10-04
I understand the points made by others about speed and realise that this can be a frustration. However, I can tell you about RELIABILITY! Yesterday morning at 5am, my Apple PowerBook Pro was stolen from my friend's house. I was devastated because of the amount of work on there that I had lost. Where's your back-up I hear you you cry! IN THE WASHING MACHINE is my answer. Yes, co-incidentally, I had accidentally left my Kingston 1GB back-up USB drive in the pocket of my jeans and, you guessed it, they ended up on a 2 hour 80 degree wash! I left it to dry and have just plugged it into my Apple G5 which, without blinking, has just copied 900mb of data back to my desktop. Kingston 1GB USB Flash Drive: Slow? Possibly. Reliable? Definitely!

Easy, Cheap and Reliable, What more could you need?? posted on 2008-04-30
Simply put it came in the enveolope, I opened it, plugged it in and it worked.

Several seconds after receiving it I was transferring files from my computer safe in the knowledge the 1GB capacity could support all the files I needed to take with me. For me this product is great, I don't need to transfer and carry more than 1GB with me but for those who do there are bigger capacaties out there for not much more money.

plug'n'play,drag'n'drop posted on 2008-04-09
You plug it into the usb port and your machine recognises the drive instantly,no drivers required. Then just drag and drop files and folders between the usb drive and your computer.I just wish everything else worked as easily as this little piece of kit.Worth the money just for the piece of mind it brings when you back up an important file.Recommended.

Bargain, even with the postage charge. Would be 5 stars, but they are trying to rip you off if you purchase more than one.
