Datel Max Power Tool Battery (PSP)
The easy way to play home brew games and applications on your unmodified PSP. Our special TOOL version of the PSP rechargeable battery works in exactly the same way as a standard Sony PSP battery, but has the ability to put your PSP into Service Mode. Using the TOOL battery, you can run PSP software from your memory stick, by putting your PSP into Service Mode. It's easy!

Great for installing cfw, or unbricking your psp. You could hardmod your own battery. But if you don't want to risk anything, I'd say that this battery is totaly worth it.

Thanks to the tool battery, I got custom firmware install on psp which has just made it better by an order of magnetude imo. Now i can play the classics like ff8 on it whilst on the move which has too me made it a lot more valuable than a official firmware psp.Only one fault with mine was that i had to hold it in the battery slot because the cover wouldnt fit and it would fall out if not pressed in.
Excellent half of the package to put custom firmware on a PSP

This represents 'half' of a Pandora's Battery system for installing custom firmware on most PSP systems, for downgrading firmware - and for 'unbricking'. I understand that the very latest version of the 'Slim' will not allow installation of custom firmware using the Pandora system, at present.
This Datel battery does exactly what it's advertised to do - i.e. put the PSP into service mode: thus allowing for the installation of custom firmware. Full instructions on charging and using the battery are included in the kit.
To install custom firmware I also used a 2MB Pro Duo card, converted to a 'Magic Memory Stick'. The card represents the other half of the Pandora's Battery system. I found I needed a genuine Sony or Sandisk Pro Duo card to make the magic stick - all software components and instructions for which were available online.
I'm a complete novice at this. It only took me 2 hours to find the appropriate software and create the Magic Stick. A further 20 minutes were spent installing custom firmware.
The advantage of custom firmware is that it allows the PSP to run 'Homebrew' games and applications. There are a good number of homebrew games and applications freely available for the PSP in 'LUA' format - and it is possible for a relative novice in programming to write their own PSP code, using LUA. Other homebrew software allows further customisation of the PSP and this includes packages like IR Shell.
For the record: Most PSP games (apart from the latest 'exclusives') are available cheaply on the second-hand market, so I've bought all my games on UMD for my PSP.
The installation of custom firmware still allows my PSP to play all official UMD games. The latest custom firmware I installed also had the same range of built-in facilities as the official firmware my PSP came with.
I understand that it is possible to create a battery that will do the same job as this one from a standard PSP battery, but for the price this is, it doesn't really seem worth risking damaging a good PSP battery - if you're a novice, like me.

it came next day. but to charge it make sure u have no memery stick in the psp. i did at first and it didn't charge, wasted two hours lol. so i thought it was faulty then i took out my ms and it worked. hpwever u'll need to make a mms, look on youtube for guides, in order to work it.

Well, i got this to unbrick my PSP after a failed upgrade, and i thought i might as well get a custom firmwire aswell. You have to create a magic memory stick, which applications can do for you, and then all you have to do is charge the battery and put eh magic memory stick on and install.
By the way, to charge the battery, you turn the PSP on with a normal battery in, then plug your psp into the mains, and while it is plugged in, take the normal battery out and put in the Pandora/Tool battery.
It does exactly what its meant to do.
