5 out of 5 stars Amazing camera for the price, but forget the video feature   November 15, 2009

Upgraded from a D40 to the D90 as needed more focus points and an inbuilt auto focus motor to use with more advanced lenses. My only regret is not getting the camera sooner as its results are amazing. Excellent, quick focusing system, great image processing for JPEGs, amazing LCD screen and great, low noise images. Some even go as far as to say that, under most conditions, this camera even out performs the much more expensive D300, although the D300 does have a magnesium body and some weather sealing.

The D90 is slightly heavier (about 100g more) than the D40, and this could be a concern if weight is a concern. However, I can carry it around all day with the wonderful Nikon 18-200mm VR lens, and the two together is a dream combination! Only possible downside, is the quality of the video mode which is not great. However, I must say that I was reluctant to even mention this in this review for two reasons: Firstly, no one seems to use SLR's to shoot videos, and Secondly, because this is such a great camera its a shame to detract from it for an issue with something none of us are realistically going to use.

Had the D90 now for 4-months and it just gets better and better. Can't think of a bad word to say about it. Just glad I bought before the prices went up! Its worth shopping around - use camerapricebuster dot co dot uk to find best deals.

5 out of 5 stars Nikon D90 - Six Stars   October 30, 2009

I purchased my D90 six months ago and would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. I am a landscape photographer and get great results with my D90 (although I have got some expensive glass), good crisp images and easy to use.

The battery life is excellent, I have a battery grip and with two batteries you could go away for a few days and leave the charger at home.

The camera has it all, easy to use for a beginner through to more advanced settings which are easy to use by those with more experience.

I have just set up my website and have now sold my first photos taken with my D90.

5 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny   April 18, 2009

Buying a D90 body was a mistake as it has relegated my D300 to the position of "expensive ornament".

Originally bought as a second body, it has now taken over to become my number one choice for a day out. It is lighter than the D300, easier to use and I can't tell any difference in picture quality when used with the same lens.

Also, the firmware has been really well thought out, being comprehensive enough to allow a large range of options without the overkill of some of the more expensive models.

The D700 or D3 would probably produce marginally better images in low light but on a clear day and with good glass I doubt there would be much in it.

The plastic body shell may not be as robust as some of the more professional models but it certainly seems stronger than some of its rivals at a similar price point. If it does eventually wear out through over use I could always dust off the D300.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect step up from a D60   November 12, 2009

I got a D90 as an upgrade to my D60.

Wow!

Amazing performance at high ISO, I shot a non league football match under floodlights and mist the other night and although not perfect, I got very usable shots at ISO 2500 and 3200 and that was using the very limited f/4.5 maximum aperture of the 55-200mm. I got the 18-135mm out on the D60 which has a larger max aperture of f/3.5 and got barely visible shots at 400 ISO, anything above that it was a case of forget it.

The D90 when couple with a grip feels like a real camera, although it's anything but a pro body it certainly does look and feel the part. The last reviewer said you can go a few days without a charger but if you have two Nikon batteries in the grip you could go a whole week as it takes up to 5,000 shots between charges.

Another pro is the fact you can af with normal AF-D and G lenses and don't have to have AF-S as with the D60. My nifty fifty on the D90 is so much better as you can af with it and aren't limited like with the D60, it's become my favourite lens overnight.

I thought the D60 was a fantastic camera and it is, but the D90 simply blows it out of the water.
