Product Description LUMIX G Micro System Digital Camera GF1 - The World's Smallest, Lightest Interchangeable Lens Camera with Artistic Flat Design By using the Micro Four Thirds System standard and developing a camera body that eliminates the mirror box and optical viewfinder unit, the DMC-GF1 was able to achieve the world's smallest, lightest body as a system camera with a built-in flash. It also features classical, but new artistic flat design. This new-generation system camera features Full-Time Live View, high-speed Contrast AF, HD movie recording, and more. It is small enough to take anywhere, yet sophisticated enough to take you as far into photography and movies as you want to go. The DMC-GF1's 4/3-type Live MOS sensor with 12.1-megapixel gives you the high image quality. It also adds a high-speed readout for HD movie recording. The Dust Reduction System helps maintain image quality by placing a Supersonic Wave Filter in front of the sensor. An image processing LSI, Venus Engine HD, incorporates two CPUs. This does not only boost image processing speed, it also helps achieve an exceptional noise-reduction performance. Also, it allows long-time movie recording in AVCHD Lite while maintaining low power consumption. The DMC-GF1 can record HD movie of 720P in AVCHD Lite with high sound quality of Dolby Digital Creator. Motion JPEG format is also available (1,280 x 720 pixels). Just press the Motion Picture Button, and shooting begins. In the Motion Picture P Mode, the aperture can be adjusted easily. The iA Mode can also be activated in motion picture recording. When the DMC-GF1 is connected to a Panasonic VIERA via an optional mini HDMI cable, the TV's remote control unit can be used to enjoy playing back with greater convenience. The 3.0-inch 460,000-dot LCD gives you a Full-time Live View of what you're shooting, with approx. 100% field of view. In addition, versatile creative functions are possible with the DMC-GF1. My Color Mode makes it easy to customize color ef

| Customer Reviews: Not the cheapest but great value for money May 7, 2010 Bahn 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As the technical data is listed here and the capabilities of this camera are very well tested at other places like dpreview i will only describe my personal impressions here.
This camera is placed somewhere between bridge, compact and FT-SLRs so the dimensions of this set are not really compact anymore, though it is still pocketable with larger jackets like my NorthFace outdoor jacket, but far away from APSC-SLRs with standard zoom, the weight is neither light nor heavy but tangible enough to keep a slow hand while shooting photos.
Even in my relative large hands, glove size 11, it is well balanced, smooth to handle and buttons / dials are well placed to be easily reached and manipulated.
Zoom goes smooth without remarkable backlash, buttons and dials, especially the shutter release, have a well defined action point and do lack of any kind like unprecise or unreliable action.
Lens hood goes tautly but though smooth and with a defined end stop.
The monitor is bright and crisp, also in bright environment, and i couldn't find any creak or squeak on the body or lens so far.
Though this camera is already well balanced and dimensioned it could make sense to attach the snug case, at least the bottom part of it, to make the handling and fun in large hands complete.
Taking pictures in real life this camera is miles ahead of the Canon G11, which i tested as well while the decision process buying a new camera, in a matter of speed.
The well going zoom lens and the AF speed makes you already take a photo while the G11 has just finished adjusting the right focal length by the rocker and starts to focus, in bright light and foremost in dark conditions.
Bottom line : This is by far the most enjoyable point and shoot camera with SLR genes and capabilities at view finder size that i have tried so far.
Not cheap but really worth the extra money to a compact and many beginner APSC-SLRs leaving enough space in your bag for other useful things, especially on trips.
Many thanks to amazon.co.uk for the very fast and reliable processing and shipping.

important battery issues fixed read before you buy anything!!! December 13, 2009 dylan (England) 19 out of 32 found this review helpful
CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!!!!!!! great camera, good video response, fits in a lowepro rezo 10, works well with transcend 16gb sd cards, which are the most sensibly priced, no performance issues, but ONE MAJOR LETDOWN, THE CAMERAS FIRMWARE(SOFTWARE)including updates from the panasonic site, BLOCK THE USE OF NON PANASONIC BRANDED BATTERIES AS SOLD ON amazon TO UNWITTING CUSTOMERS OF WHICH I WAS ONE, which cost around a quarter of the price at less than £10.00 each, as opposed to £50.00 up for the identical product labelled with Panasonic, and chipped inside like the INKJET manufacturers have done TO FORCE YOU TO PAY EXTORTIONATE PRICES FOR THEIR OWN LABELLED CARTIDGES, HOWEVER HELP IS AT HAND, I FOUND A HONG KONG BASED SELLER ON EBAY UK, called BUYITNOWHK selling chipped "SIDO" branded batteries for £16.99 a pair airmailed to your door, so they slip under the customs net...i.e. no import duties and THEY WORK JUST FINE with all firmware versions of panasonic cameras using the BLB13 type batteries.......HAPPY DAYS.....the cameras now a goodun!!!!! TELL YOUR FRIENDS THE EVIL EMPIRE OF EXTORTIONATE CONSUMER RIP OFF'S HAS BEEN STRUCK A MIGHTY BLOW (after a little research on the net forums, to see who had an answer!)

Convergence technology that works December 21, 2009 MosiMapk (Russia) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Fed up as I was of lugging about small back packs full of lenses, adapters, filters etc and wanting DSLR quality I settled on the GF1. This is a small ( although not compact ) camera that will just about fit in a pocket. As others have described its technical qualities I wont repeat them - they are however staggeringly good. The real advantage to the semi novice is the combination of easy point and shoot photography, DSLR quality and size. In a world of technology convergence the GF1 will meet almost all of your everyday needs. It is however not compromised by this convergence. Do shop around. Prices vary enormously. The cheapest `package' deal was found by bartering on Tottenham Court Rd, London. Cheaper than Amazon
a little to early to tell - but first impressions are very favourable October 16, 2009 T. Nielsen-marsh (Germany) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
It really is too early to tell yet - but first impressions are very favourable. It was a choice between the G11 and this - and this won out - probably because I always found my G9 difficult to do close up work with and the additional lenses never quite worked well.
It was immaculately packaged, arrived on time and is a high quality object. I seldom read a manual - so it's good that the controls are intuitive. Working out what some of the settings do can be a little challenging, so the manual is a godsend. Pity it's not really written in English. It's a good approximation - but some of the explanations do take some fathoming out. This affects understanding quite a lot really and for a camera of this price is inexcusable. I am hoping that someone somewhere now writes up a real handbook that explains all the functions in a way that makes more sense.
Initial images are crisp and sharp - better than my G9 - but it will take a while before I can tell how much better it is. One snag so far - and it may be solvable somewhere - is that the control for bracketed exposures (I am playing with HDR) is also the control that sets the timer. This appears to mean that you cannot set the timer to control bracketed shots and thus have to keep your finger on the big shiny button! I hope I can solve this one without going to the expense of buying a remote release, otherwise camera shake is going to be an issue.
Nothing that I read in pre-release reviews picked this up.
More anon perhaps.
