Wow! April 8, 2010 S. J. Hughes (Portsmouth England) 55 out of 55 found this review helpful
To start, I am not a professional photographer but have been using digital cameras for the last 10 years or so. This is just the best I have ever had or seen. I have had the camera for a week now and have not used all the features of the camera but am working the way through it. The zoom features is awesome even with my sometimes unsteady hand. The quality of the shots is impressive. The only thing that lets it down is the included software for the PC. This is slow and clunky, I much prefer just to download pictures using Picassa and any editing that I want to do (Not much really, its either good or really bad, in which case I delete) I do in Photoshop or some other software. All in all I am very impressed with this camera.
Excellent camera- very easy to use April 19, 2010 S. Carter (West Midlands, England) 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I brought this camera approximately 3 weeks ago just before a trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland and I haven't been disappointed. I spent along time researching different camera- mostly SLRs and I came to the conclusion that this camera has so many features it wasn't worth getting an SLR!
It is very easy to set-up and the manual is in the camera's memory which is very useful when travelling. The main setting are very easy to understand, although I haven;t got to grips with all the light adjustment features etc. yet.
The best bit by far are the effects. The panoramic feature is amazing, and again, extremely easy to use- the camera basically does it for you! The fish eye and pop art colours are also great fun.
You can also adjust the image quality before you download the image e.g. blemish touch-up! And you can change the colours e.g. to black and white or sepia.
It is also fairly light and very compact- again, excellent for travel and it has a 30x zoom!!
I would strongly recommend this camera. I thought about it as it is fairly expensive but it is worth the money.
If you want to take good quality pictures and enjoy photography then I would recommend this camera.
My opinon by a novice photographer June 30, 2010 bigpaw36 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
i recently bought this camera after i broke my sony DSC-H7 bridge camera. one of the things that atracted me to this camera was the 30x zoom. When i first got this camera out of the box i was a bit dubious as it is very thin and nothing like the tradional style of the sony etc. But i have used it several times and i am growing to like it.
The functions are very easy to use and intuitive to use. But you have to use a computer to read the owners manual which can be a bit annoying.
I have bought a 16Gb SDHC memory card for using in it and it say i will get about 4500 photos at full 14Mp which is impressive.
I am by no means an expert and i have never used a slr or dslr but i find the bridge cameras to be a good comprimise if you want to use zoom but want a compact ish easy to use camera, and the olympus sp800uz is very easy to use.
from its easy choice of shooting options to its single button video recording.
it takes great macro shots and excellent zoomed shots at full zoom and with the 5x digital zoom it gives you an impressive 150x total zoom.
I was dilly dallying between the olympus Sp800uz and the Fujifilm HS10 so i bought both and i have to say they two totally different style of camera.
the olympus is thin, compact with a motorised zoom control - zoom is 30x optical and 5x digital zoom
the Fujifilm is more like a traditional DSLR. the zoom is manual like a traditional lense - zoom is 30x optical and 2 x digital.
so the olympus is better on zoom and being compact and is 14mp whereas the Fujifilm HS10 is only 10.3mp.
as i said the HS10 is more DSLR like and as such has a lot more bulk and lots more external buttons.
on the reviews it gets a mixed opinion but i am yet to take actual photos with it.
but so far the olympus bets it hands down for its features.
Brilliant July 4, 2010 W. P. T. Fletcher (Germany) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The camera arrived last week. I mostly use the Auto mode and Stitch mode. The colours are vibrant and never out of focus as with cheaper cameras. With the stitch mode, you take the first pic, move the camera round to the cursor on the display and a second and (optional) third pic are taken automatically - seemless pic. The zoom is amazing. There are many advanced functions that are easy to access but I'll probably only use a handful as Auto covers everything- the menu system is simple and pleasing. I'm normally quite a harsh critic but this camera has impressed me. Also, a very good case for this is the Lowepro coupled with 8GB SD card. As a very amateur photographer, this camera has given me some professional photos.
The Olympus SP-800UZ is a super camera. July 11, 2010 Grace Cleverdon (Devon, England) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Light and easy to hold, I found it very easy to work out, but I have been using Olympus cameras now for several years and still use a Olympus tough 8000 which I am very happy with but wanted something as easy to use but with a better zoom, I have managed to take photo's of Deer grazing in a field without them knowing I was there, fantastic just what I wanted it for, but without the price tag of a SLR.
It arrived within 2 days of ordering it but was disapointed I could not use it right away, as I had to connect it to the computer first to load all the information.
all in all a fantstic bit of kit.
